A desert spring is called an oasis and it attracts plants, which in turn attract animals.
Has the cat come back?
Has the cat come back? The last confirmed sighting of a cougar in Ontario
was near Creemore in 1884. Today, the Eastern cougar is listed as a
protected animal under the Endangered Species Act. It is
reddish-brown, has a dark stripe on its back and lives in heavily
forested areas undisturbed by humans. Recently, there have been
lots of unconfirmed cougar sightings in northwestern Ontario.
Cougar tracks and scat have also been seen. Cougars feed on deer,
but may also prey on moose calves. Why is there an increase in
sightings? It could be the result of an expansion in a small cougar
population, or it could be because more people are vacationing in
remote areas frequented by cougars. JULY 6, 2000
