Raptors, or birds of prey, like the eagle, owl and hawk, have large, strong, hooked bills that bite and tear flesh while their feet immobilize the prey.
Massive study to count pandas
Massive study to count pandas In April 2000, scientists in China will begin a
two year survey to find out how many giant pandas are left in the
wild. Officials believe that about 1,000 pandas may remain, but
this estimate is based on figures collected in 1974-1977 and
1985-1988. The World Wide Fund for Nature is supporting the latest
survey and it will be conducted with the use of electronic tracking
devices and satellite positioning technology over the reserves in
Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu where giant pandas may still
roam. 31 MARCH 2000
