Australia's alpine regions are shrinking due to global warming, and one expert believes they could disappear within 70 years. John Morgan of La Trobe University found that subalpine trees in the Snowy Mountains are growing 40 meters higher up the slope than they did 25 years ago. The Snowy Mountains are low by world standards, and some have only 100-200 meters between the treeline and the summits.
