Beetle threatens B.C. forests
Beetle threatens B.C. forests An epidemic of mountain pine beetle is threatening
to wipe out more than 5.7 million hectares of forests in
west-central British Columbia. The beetle usually dies back in
winter, but over the past two years, the majority of the beetles
have survived, due to the mild winters. The beetles will continue
to spread, unless a very cold winter kills enough of them to bring
the infestation under control. NOVEMBER 10, 2000
