Make sure soil is ready before planting veggies

Make sure soil is ready before planting veggies
To see if soil is ready for planting, squeeze a handful of it into a ball. If the ball falls apart when poked, you are ready to begin planting. If it doesn't, it is still too wet and you need to wait to plant. Peas are a good and easy crop to grow and are best planted in April. If you plant them closely, about 1 inch apart, they will hold themselves upright. You can also plant peas on a trellis. There are many different varieties of peas to choose from. If you are growing onions, make sure the area is well weeded and water the onions well. They have very shallow roots and need light watering once a day. When the tops start to die, around August, you can stop watering and leave the onions in the soil for 2 more weeks to mature. Onions can also be planted in August to mature the next June.
