A species of Wasp in Costa Rica sting spiders and lay their eggs inside them. The spiders then lay an especially strong web to support the wasp larva and then dies. When the larva is born it eats the spider!
For a bee, odours are all in the genes
For a bee, odours are all in the genes Researchers in Germany say that a bee's sense of
smell is innate (an instinct) rather than learned. These scientists
presented 30 different scents to honeybees and monitored their
brain activity in order to see which part of the bee's brain became
active when they smelled each scent. They found that the different
brain patterns activated for each scent were identical within the
individuals of a species. This means that smells are not learned
individually, but are shared by the entire species. 1 MAY 1999, P. 27
