Toxic takeoffs
Toxic takeoffs Researchers say that the fluid used to de-ice
aircraft is polluting the groundwater near airports. Testing near
airports has shown that organisms which have been placed in
groundwater to test for toxicity are being killed and that runoff
streams are being affected. Researchers report that additives in
the de-icing fluid are toxic and pose a risk to areas where they
are used. 9 JANUARY 1999, P. 7
