Sick pond syndrome

Sick pond syndrome
Amphibians who have so far survived for over 250 million years on Earth are getting sick. The cause of the sharp decline in amphibian populations across the globe is the topic of an international summit on amphibian health to be hosted by the San Diego Zoo. It will be the first time that 60 herpetologists, epidemiologists, virologists, pathologists, bacteriologists, and neuroimmunologists have come together to talk. Using their different skills, the scientists are planning to work together in an attempt to discover the reasons for the decline in amphibians worldwide. One of the theories which will be considered is that environmental changes may be affecting amphibians' immune systems, leaving them easy prey to numerous bacterial and viral infections.
