A fly's taste organs are its feet. If it lands on sugar, it will stamp on it to determine that it can be eaten before it begins its meal.
Behold the Ratfish
Behold the Ratfish Ratfish are a relative of sharks and rays and are
found off the B.C. coast. They are brown-coloured with white spots,
have a long tapered tail, two buck teeth and large green eyes. The
Vancouver Aquarium's Gil Hewlett reports that, "they have a
cartoon- like 'dumb bunny' look to their heads". Males have a
topknot on their heads, somewhat like a quail and they also have a
sharp, slightly poisonous spine just in front of their dorsal fin.
Ratfish are normally found in great depths, like around the wreck
of the Titanic, but can be found in the shallow waters of the B.C.
coast. This is a good example of the special conditions that exist
off the coast, as they allow species that are rarely seen in other
parts of the world to be seen in B.C. 13 APRIL 2000
