Snow crab may go way of cod: report
The snow crab industry in Newfoundland is in trouble. A report by CBC radio stated that it had received a copy of a Department of Fisheries and Oceans report which said that snow crab stocks around the province could run out within 3 years if reproduction did not improve. Fishermen meeting with scientists in St John's were alarmed at the threat to the $230 million industry. According to CBC radio, scientists would like to see the annual snow crab catch cut by as much as 50 per cent.
