Recycling a stack of newspaper which is 1 metre (3.3 feet) tall will save a 3.5 metre (11.5 feet) tree.
Nature's Sunblock
Nature's Sunblock Corals in the Great Barrier Reef contain
sunscreens that absorb ultraviolet rays--and could work well for
humans too. Shallow water coral organisms can defend themselves
thanks to chemical compounds that absorb UV light. They can also
repair UV damage with small molecule and enzyme antioxidants. The
natural sunscreen is made from a substance that results from a
symbiosis between coral and algae that live in its tissue.
Synthetic, commercial sunscreens can produce allergic reactions.
Sunscreens from the sea would be much less likely to do that
according to scientists at the Australian Institute of Marine
Sciences. SEPTEMBER 13, 2000
