An ice idea Researcher Moshe Alamaro of the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology has come up with an idea to fight the
problem of summer drought. He proposes that during the winter
months when water is abundant, special snow machines should be used
to convert river or reservoir water into mountains of ice. These
would be insulated during the spring with a tough plastic cover and
then used as needed during the summer. 21 AUGUST 1999
