On thin ice
A research project known as SHEBA (Surface Heat Budget of the Arctic Ocean) is studying the interactions between the air, sea, and ice and how they affect the Arctic climate. It is hoped that the project can provide information which will make global climate models better, as the increasing levels of greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere are expected to have the most powerful effects on the Arctic regions.
