Did you know that every day there are about 72 million newspapers sold in Canada and the United States? It takes about 100,000 trees to supply these daily newspapers. Let's hope most of those papers are recycled so that we don't have to waste trees and fill up our landfill sites with more garbage.
How not to save the tiger
How not to save the tiger Eric Dinerstein, chief scientist with the World
Wildlife Fund (WWF), says that the traditional methods used in
trying to preserve tiger populations are not effective and need to
be changed if wild populations of tigers are to survive. Scientists
are currently engaged in trying to preserve the genetic diversity
of the 5 different tiger species found across Asia. Dr Dinerstein
suggests that conservationists should concentrate on boosting only
the strongest populations of tigers and their habitats. 15 AUGUST 1998, P. 12
