Starvation diet
Starvation diet The success of Australia's program to control its
wild rabbit population may be having a negative effect on some
native species. There has been a decline in the overall abundance
of some native species of animals, such as birds of prey, since the
rabbit control program began. Wild rabbits form a large part the
diet of Australia's raptors, such as the wedge-tailed eagle and
brown falcon. With less prey food available, the birds are breeding
less and their populations are declining. 31 OCTOBER 1998, P. 18
