Identifying Potential Contamination Sources on Winnipeg's Urban Streams

Surface water pollution
Several creeks run through the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, though the quality of the water running through them has not yet been fully evaluated. Biologists from the University of Manitoba and the Manitoba Department of Conservation are comparing water quality, sediment and insect populations along Omand's Creek, Winnipeg, and other nearby streams. Effects of past climactic changes to the stream ecosystems are also being examined. An inventory has been created and these results are being used to help identify sources of contamination to the streams. In addition, this study is helping to create a stream water- quality management strategy for the city of Winnipeg. back to the list of projects
