FACTOID!!
A class frog has a see-through belly. It lays its eggs on leaves hanging over a stream. The tadpoles fall straight into the water when they hatch.

Ecological Disturbances and Forest Dynamics

Understanding the effects of disturbance on forest ecosystems.
Dr. Ken Lertzman's laboratory at Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, is taking a look at how forests grow and change over time, even through ecological disturbances such as fire and timber harvesting. This project encompasses a number of studies. These different studies are taking a look at various aspects of forest dynamics, such as: tree growth in partially harvested areas; fire history of forests and the resulting landscape dynamics; and the changing structural characteristics of forest stands with age. Results from these studies will aid the understanding of various types of disturbance on forests and their effects over time, and will also help to inform on issues surrounding forest conservation and management.
